Getting to know standards
Standardization means creating
agreed ways of doing something. Its purpose is to simplify the work of
authorities, facilitate trade, and make consumers' everyday lives easier.
Standardization increases product compatibility and safety, protects the consumer and the environment, and facilitates domestic and international trade.
Standards are published as documents anyone can purchase and use. Using standards is free of charge. Standards documents are subject to a charge - this is how the majority of the work conducted by SFS and its standards writing bodies is funded.
